Maritime Indigo Design system
DNV | Bouvet Client
08.2020 - 06.2021
DNV's design system, OneDesign is primarily designed for public applications in a commercial context. Thus, it could not meet the design needs for internal applications used daily by domain experts who handle highly complexed industrial matters. The Maritime department has a portfolio of 200 different applications and many of them were developed without design resources. To provide a holistic user experience for internal users, the Maritime UX team has taken the initiative to expand OneDesign to meet the broader design needs and create a standard for the Maritime portfolio.
My role
UX/UI designer
This project is initiated by designers in the Maritime department to improve the UI quality across systems and products. Yuna therefore who has worked with a number of projects, products and solutions that are newly launched, had opportunities to create new design components that can be used for other upcoming applications. She has started with the design tokens available in OneDesign CSS and adapted them for the broader use. In order to clearly convey design principles to the development team, she has illustrated design specifications and documented design guidelines so that other teams can apply them in a consistent way.
Toast components
Toast is one example that Yuna has delivered to OneDesign team to update the existing design and add multiple states and variants. Yuna has taken initiative to contribute to enriching OneDesign when she discovers new use cases in her project.
Select components with various states and usage
Maritime products should often handle special requirements and this resulted in adapting existing components to special use cases. It is challenging to cover all the cases but it was essential for Yuna to document detailed design guidelines to ensure a consistent way to apply components for other teams
